1949年，中國國民黨和共產黨的內亂戰爭，沈媛隨著先生來到台灣，夫婦倆胼手胝足在異地成家立業。一晃眼40多年過去了，兒女們卻又各自飛赴他國讀書就業。 1988年，母親節後的周日，沈媛獨自在家，拾起了那封斷了40年音訊的對岸家書，母親早已過世了，兄長說母親天天盼望著媛妹回家。 沈媛看著牆上掛著全家福照，她拉上了窗簾，拖出樟木箱，又翻出了時光記憶的件件旗袍，又唱又跳著地和母親隔空話家常，一會兒悲傷一會兒歡笑。 但母親的容顏卻始終模糊，依稀浮現的是母親美麗的身影及遙遠的聲音... In 1949, Shen Yuan came to Taiwan with her husband during the civil war between Chinese Nationalist Party and the Chinese Communist Party, and started a family in a different place. More than 40 years have passed in the blink of an eye, her sons and daughters have respectively gone to study and find jobs in foreign countries. In 1988, on the Sunday after Mother's Day, Shen Yuan was alone at home and picked up the letter from the other side of the straits that had been blocked for 40 years. Her mother had passed away long ago. Her brother said that mother was looking forward to Yuanmei's (nick name of Shen Yuan) return home every day. Shen Yuan looked at the family photos hanging on the wall. She closed the curtains, dragged out the camphor wood box, and dug out the cheongsams that were memories of time. She sang and danced and chatted with her mother about old-time daily life, sad and laughing feeling shared in between. The mother's face,however, is always blurred, and what vaguely emerges is the mother's beautiful figure and distant voice... Il était une fois… En 1949, Shen Yuan, âgée d'une vingtaine d'années, est arrivée à Taiwan avec son mari. Avec le maigre salaire de son mari en tant que fonctionnaire, elle a donné naissance à quatre enfants l'un après l'autre. Ce couple a fondé une famille et travaillait durement pour nourrir toute la famille dans un pays étranger. Plus de 40 ans écoulés en un clin d'œil, leurs enfants sont partis pour étudier et travailler dans d'autres pays. Le dimanche après la fête des mères en 1988, Shen Yuan lisait toute seule à la maison une lettre de "chez elle", venant de l'autre côté du détroit de Taiwan, qui était bloquée depuis 40 ans. Dans la lettre, son frère disait que leur mère est déjà décédée depuis longtemps, et qu'elle attendait chaque jour avec impatience le retour de sa fille Shen Yuan. Elle a fermé les rideaux, sorti la boîte en bois de camphre et trouvé des cheongsams qui lui rappellaient des souvenirs du temps passé. En chantant et dansant, elle a bavardé avec sa mère dans l"air, tantôt triste et tantôt heureuse.
